The Grammarian

I didn't always love grammar, and I really don't remember learning much of it when I was in school. ButI grew up with an English teacher for a mother, and I remember my grandmother laughing about an article about owls being "wonton killers."

When my older children were in third, fourth, and sixth grades, I discovered the Rod and Staff English series, and it opened the world of grammar understanding for us. My kids learned to diagram sentences, how to use lie and lay properly, and to this day they can rattle off the list of linking verbs in under three seconds.

The more we learned, the more incorrect usage I saw in the world around me, and I began documenting it on my blog. That led to a job as an editor of E-Books for The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. Several years later I was also editing for Unit Studies by Amanda Bennett and picking up freelance work when I could. Now that all five children have graduated from high school and gone on to college and beyond, I work full-time editing English translations.

I still love learning about grammar and have been known to read style guides for fun.

Don't tell.
